One of the Ten Commandments is to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy, setting it apart from the rest of the week. It is one of the many disciplines of grace that we are called to as God’s children. The sermon recommended that this day is essential for both rest and perspective. A few practical steps for going to the “window of perspective” include: a) Remember the past, b) Reevaluate the present, and c) Think about the future. Practicing the sabbath should not be restrictive or exhausting; in fact, it should be liberating. God gives us this special day because He loves us and created us to rest in Him.
