Passage

John 16:4-15

Sermon Summary

What would you say to a group of anxious people worried about what will happen next? In today’s text, Jesus speaks to His disciples in the upper room as He prepares to leave them (through His betrayal and crucifixion). While describing what lies ahead, He reassures them with the promise of the coming Helper (the Holy Spirit). This promise of His presence through the Holy Spirit also points toward His future return (the Second Advent) and the hope it brings for us.

Discussion Questions
  1. What stood out or stuck with you from the sermon?
  2. When you first hear about the Holy Spirit coming to “convict” the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, what feelings of hope or fear arise for you?
  3. How does having the Helper (the Holy Spirit) benefit you in you life today?
  4. What does it look like for us to hold on to the promise of His return during this season?
